202: Implement and Monitor Biodynamic Enterprise
Unit One
Establish Production Enterprise
Unit Description
This unit requires the student to implement the principles and practices of a biodynamic system in establishing and maintaining a biodynamic production enterprise.
It requires implementing changes, as necessary, to ensure optimum performance of the production enterprise.
Upon completion of this unit the student will be able to implement production plans for each stage of the production enterprise, prepare the site for production, and maintain optimum conditions required for the production enterprise.
Unit Two
Use Biodynamic Preparations and Practices
Unit Description
This unit requires the student to use practices which maintain soil fertility in a biodynamic system.
Upon completion of this unit the student will be able to apply BD500 and BD501 at the most suitable times and conditions, use biodynamic compost, liquid manures and manure concentrate on a regular basis, and incorporate a crop rotation plan as part of the site management.
Unit Three
Manage Weeds, Pests and Disease
Unit Description
This unit involves managing weeds, pests and disease problems using biodynamic principles and practices. It requires using practices which prevent the occurrence of weeds, pests and disease as part of the management of the site; identifying the causes of weeds, pests and disease; and using practices to address the underlying causes and to control problems as they occur.
Upon completion of this unit the student will be able to review the role and function of weeds, pests and disease, use appropriate practices to address the underlying causes of weed, pest and disease problems, identify situations where control measures are required, and implement and monitor control measures when necessary.
Unit Four
Harvest and Store Produce
Unit Description
This unit requires the student to harvest produce and assess the quality and quantity of produce harvested. It also requires using post harvest treatments as required and storing produce to maintain optimum quality. It may also involve marketing and transporting produce as required.
Upon completion of this unit the student will be able to harvest produce at the optimum time, assess the quality and quantity of produce, use post harvest treatments as required, store produce in optimum condition and market produce in accordance with marketing plans.
